Oli McBurnie reacts as Patrick Bamford joins Sheffield United after Leeds exit

The major talking point at Leeds right now concerns Patrick Bamford.

In a surprise development, the 32-year-old has moved to Sheffield United on a free transfer, penning a short-term contract which runs until January.

That is despite the fact he has previously been labelled a “muppet” by Chris Wilder as Leeds and Sheffield United battled for promotion in the 2018/19 campaign.

Some Leeds fans were surprised to see Patrick Bamford head to Bramall Lane – and Oli McBurnie has now shared his thoughts.

Oli McBurnie gives seal of approval to Sheffield United signing Patrick Bamford

The Leeds United academy graduate has now commented on Sheffield United’s announcement of the news on Instagram, writing: “Good signing!! 👏🏼”

McBurnie – who Leeds released in 2010 at U14 level – clearly believes Bamford can be of significant help to Wilder amid a difficult situation, with Sheffield United currently 22nd in the Championship.

The numbers – however – suggest it would be a shock if the England international does hit the ground running.

Bamford failed to score in 17 Championship appearances last season, and with little match fitness under his belt, we would be stunned if he was able to do anything of note before his deal expires at the end of December.

Oli McBurnie is mentoring a potential Leeds United star of the future

McBurnie is currently playing alongside Joe Gelhardt at Hull City, where he is seemingly having a great impact on the 23-year-old.

Before a calf injury ruled the Scotland international out of the last five games, he and the Leeds loanee were causing havoc alongside each other in attack.

McBurnie can boast six goals and four assists in just ten Championship outings so far this term, while Gelhardt has netted seven goals in 15 league outings.

Should Gelhardt return to Yorkshire and become an important player for Leeds, supporters will be grateful to McBurnie for his help.
