Browns Jerry Jeudy Hopes Jets Game Helps Jump Start the Passing Offense; Dawand, Wright…

BEREA -- There was little doubt last week against the Jets that the Cleveland Browns were making a concerted effort to get the ball to Jerry Jeudy, including 10 times in the first half alone, last week against the Jets. All totaled, Jeudy was targeted 12 times and finished with six receptions for 78 yards (13.0 avg.), including a 22-yard touchdown reception. It was Jeudy's first touchdown of the season, over halfway through the season.

Through nine games, Jeudy has 28 receptions for 335 yards (12.0 avg.), including one touchdown. Jeudy's season long reception is 33 yards. Jeudy did have 13 targets in a loss to the Steelers, but had just five receptions for 43 yards. Drops have been a problem for Jeudy, as well, as he's been credited with at least eight dropped passes.

Jeudy had a breakout season in 2024 when he caught 90 passes for 1,229 yards (13.7 avg.), including four touchdowns. Jeudy made his first Pro Bowl.

Kevin Stefanski said the goal last week was to get the ball to Jeudy, early and often.

"Well, like we talked about a couple weeks ago, I mean, Jerry's our best wide receiver, one of our best players on offense," Stefanski said on Wednesday. "We know that he's a guy that we lean on to do a lot of things and the teams that we're going against know that as you see. So, he's a focal point of what we want to be."

Offensive coordinator Tommy Rees said Jeudy does a lot for the offense.

"Jerry does a lot of things well and I'll just say we're trying to put him in a position to do those things in the right spots, in the right moments," Rees said on Thursday. "We talked last week when you get your good players going early, usually it helps them throughout the game.

"Jerry's a very talented guy who's worked extremely hard and put himself in that position to have success."

Dillon Gabriel threw his second touchdown of the game against the Jets to Jeudy.

"It's huge," Gabriel said. "You want to give your best players the ball," Gabriel said. "I say that a lot. But then when you're able to do it, you see what happens. We want to do that more consistently and create more completions when they're there. And now you see what Jerry can do."

Jeudy said catching passes early in the game helps him get going and get into a rhythm.

"Yeah, definitely," Jeudy said. "It definitely helps me get going. Being involved in the game. That's all you grasp as a receiver, that momentum being involved, being hands dirty, stuff like that."
