Former NBA All-Star Adds Fuel to Anthony Davis Trade Rumors

Anthony Davis' days with the Dallas Mavericks just might be numbered.

With the Mavs making a major decision by parting ways with Nico Harrison, the front office's shakeup could change the direction of the team. If the Mavericks decide to enter a rebuild, Davis would be an obvious trade chip for the organization.

On Thursday, the former five-time All-Star John Wall commented on the situation out in Dallas, adding fuel to Anthony Davis trade rumors, suggesting that the Chicago Bulls just might be a team he's eyeing.

"I wish he was healthy so they could try to see what they have, and wait until Kyrie [Irving] comes back, but I think at this point, AD's probably done with it," Wall said on FanDuel TV's ‘Run It Back.'

"I don't want to speak for him, but he probably wants to move forward. You can't believe everything you hear on the news, but you've been hearing he wants to go back to Chicago and see what's going on."

Davis was born in Chicago, Illinois, and attended Perspectives Charter School, where he became a top player in the nation for his class. Davis was a five-star recruit on all major recruiting platforms and attended Kentucky for one season. In 40 games with Kentucky, Davis averaged 14.2 points, 10.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.3 steals, and 4.7 blocks per game.

In 2012, Davis was the first-overall pick for the New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans. He spent seven seasons with the Pelicans, before getting moved to the Los Angeles Lakers to team up with LeBron James. The duo won an NBA Championship in 2020. Davis would spend five full seasons with the Lakers before getting traded midway through his sixth season. He ended up on the Mavericks in the controversial Luka Doncic deal.

Last year, Davis saw the court for just nine games with the Mavs. He looked great when healthy, averaging a double-double, but injuries continued to affect him. That remains the case in 2025-2026.

"I think they're trying to blow it up, and build around Cooper Flagg," Wall continued. "Get rid of some of the other pieces, but I had [the Mavericks as] one of those dark horse teams, if they could stay healthy, keep AD there, and let Kyrie come back, I feel like they could have been a team in the West. I think with Nico Harrison fired, I think they might end up going in a different direction."

If the Mavericks begin to shop Davis, the Bulls being an interested suitor would probably be a safe bet. While they've struggled after a hot start, losing their past four games, Chicago's front office might want to add a multi-time All-Star to join Josh Giddey in AD's hometown.

In five games this season, Davis has posted averages of 20.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists. It's still too early to assume the Mavs will certainly move away from Davis, but the rumors have been gaining steam since the firing of Harrison.
