Former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Chris Hoke says that if Aaron Rodgers continues to struggle, the team needs to bench the four-time MVP for Mason Rudolph.
Hoke, who acknowledged the struggles Rodgers has faced over the last few games, says the struggles Rodgers has put together throwing the ball downfield are hurting the offense, and a quarterback change should be out of the equation.
“I think if Mason could go out there and run the offense very well, so possibly,” Hoke said on 93.7 the Fan. “If Aaron Rodgers plays like he did on Sunday night, absolutely. But Aaron has also played really well this year, so which Aaron will we get on Sunday? I think the next, two or three weeks is gonna tell. If he plays like he did on Sunday, you gotta make the switch.”
Rodgers, who was 16 of 31 for 151 yards along with a touchdown and two interceptions, said that he missed a few throws that he should have made.
“I expect to play great every single week, and this was not my best performance,” Rodgers said. “I got to play better. Whatever it takes. If it’s better checks, if it’s better throws. Whatever it is, I got to play better. We got to bounce back. We got a division opponent next week. We’re 5-4, we’re an ahead by a game in the division. We got to play better on offense for sure.”
Rodgers added that some receivers did not get open on a few plays, and the run game sputtered in the first half, which was something else that Rodgers specifically zeroed in on as well.
