Report: Everton dealt potential Joshua Zirkzee blow as Roma sense transfer wish after holding…

Everton could move for another striker this summer as competition mounts for the signature of Joshua Zirkzee.

The January transfer window is still more than six weeks away from being cranked open once again, but Everton are being linked with new faces.

Midtjylland striker Franculino Dju is on Everton’s radar, with a new goalscorer seemingly wanted.

Reports earlier this week claimed that Everton want Ivan Toney and Joshua Zirkzee as they seek playing time ahead of the World Cup.

Toney is currently in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ahli, while Zirkzee is stuck on the Manchester United bench.

Roma confident of landing Everton target Joshua Zirkzee

Zirkzee is in danger of missing out on the Netherlands squad at next summer’s World Cup as things stand.

The Dutchman has slipped down United’s pecking order, and he may seek a January exit.

Roma are also interested in Zirkzee, meaning the striker is at the centre of a potential tug-of-war between two Friedkin-owned clubs.

The Mirror now claim that Roma have made contact with both United and Zirkzee’s representatives to discuss a January deal.

The outcome is that Roma believe Zirkzee wants to return to Italy, having previously excelled with Bologna.

Zirkzee’s Serie A form earned him his 2024 move to Old Trafford, and a return to Italy may be in mind.

Everton should not be too concerned with Joshua Zirkzee latest

Gian Piero Gasperini has genuine hope of bringing the Serie A title back to Rome this season.

Roma have started the campaign well, but have struggled for goals at times.

Zirkzee could be their solution given his proven Serie A record, but a move to Everton has always seemed a little difficult to imagine.

Zirkzee’s best displays in the Premier League have come as a number 10 rather than as a lone forward.

Everton would be looking for a striker in January, and Zirkzee has not proven that he can score goals as a Premier League centre-forward.

Roma may well pounce for Zirkzee, but Everton shouldn’t be too concerned at the prospect of missing out on his signature and can focus the goalscoring attention elsewhere.
