The Washington Commanders have not had the season many fans hoped for coming off last year’s unexpected trip to the NFC Championship Game. Now on a five-game losing streak, and with quarterback Jayden Daniels out due to an elbow injury, there’s not much hope they can turn things around.
To make matters worse, Daniels’ injury isn’t the only absence causing significant damage to the team. Stats show how impactful the loss of defensive lineman Dorance Armstrong Jr. has been to the Commanders.
“The Dorance Armstrong Effect: From Weeks 1-6, the Commanders generated a 40.6% pressure rate, the 4th-highest in the NFL. Since Week 7, their pressure rate has plummeted to 27.3%, the 5th-lowest,” Nicki Jhabvala wrote on X.

Armstrong had 24 combined tackles and 5.5 sacks before getting injured. It was shaping up to be a career year for the 28-year-old, but now he’ll miss multiple weeks for the first time in his eight NFL seasons.
His presence was a big reason Washington was able to go on a run last year, and while his absence may get lost in the mix due to Daniels being hurt, it’s nearly as big. With running back Austin Ekeler also out for the year and wide receiver Terry McLaurin battling injuries as well, it’s shaping up to be a lost season.
