Houston Texans star quarterback C.J. Stroud suffered a severe concussion in Week 9, which resulted in the star signal caller missing Week 10. Now, head coach DeMeco Ryans has announced an unfortunate update on the star passer.
Stroud suffered the concussion when attempting to slide on a play. After he was tackled by a Denver Broncos defender, his head hit the ground with enough force to cause the head injury.
Stroud was taken into the blue medical tent and then immediately into the locker room following the hit. After being ruled out, Davis Mills stepped into action.
The Texans would lose against the Broncos, but Mills would help propel the team to a much-needed Week 10 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Sitting at 4-5, Houston remains well alive in the playoff race.
With a huge divisonal matchup in Week 11 against the Tennessee Titans, Ryans has revealed that Stroud will remain out in Week 11 due to the concussion he suffered.
Per multiple reports, it was announced that Stroud will miss the Titans matchup. The hope for the Texans would be that he can clear concussion protocol by Week 12.
The Texans face off against the Buffalo Bills in Week 12, and their record could be 5-5 by that time. The Titans are a much worse team on paper, but divisional matchups are always tough.
Mills threw 292 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception against a tough Jaguars defense. In total, he has 452 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in his two starts.
Mills clearly has the skill set to keep the Texans afloat while Stroud recovers from his concussion. Though the Indianapolis Colts are far ahead in the AFC South with an 8-2 record, Houston can still land a wild card spot if the Colts continue on their winning streak.
Stroud gives the Texans the best chance at winning, but he cannot take the field until he clears concussion protocol. He has thrown 1,702 yards, 11 touchdowns, and five interceptions thus far this season.
