Going from the trade block to top target, Romeo Doubs has made a name for himself in his fourth season for the Packers. In large part, his increased role is simply due to injury. Jayden Reed, the preseason WR1, has been hurt most of the year. Christian Watson has only been back for three games.
But Doubs has also risen to the occasion. The team needed him to step up as the leading receiver and he answered the bell. He’s done a lot to help the team, and, in a contract year, a lot to help himself as well.
So much so that, in ESPN’s midseason 2026 free agent rankings, Doubs sits 20th overall and fourth among receivers. He’s shown enough for the Packers to think about holding onto him, but he’s also upped his price tag. Unless GM Brian Gutekunst opens up the pocketbook, 2025 will probably be Doubs’ last in Green Bay.
Doubs has likely priced himself onto another team in ’26
Writes NFL insider Jeremy Fowler on Doubs, “Green Bay could bring him back, but that might be a challenge this close to free agency. He has played his way out of a bargain deal, serving as Green Bay’s No. 1 receiver throughout the first 10 weeks.”

That he certainly has. Among Packers receivers, Doubs is first in yards and touchdowns. He leads the team in catches, targets, first downs, and plays of 20-plus yards. Green Bay’s other wideouts put together have caught just two touchdown passes to Doubs’ four. Even with Watson back, he is Jordan Love’s top target-getter (20 to 12). We’ll see whether his involvement continues at its current rate, but Doubs is easily on pace to set career high receptions and receiving yards.
Making $3.6 million in the final year of his rookie deal, he is poised to make considerably more than that in free agency. Spotrac puts his market value at four years, $50 million.
He’s also cleaned up his drops problem and is making more big plays – his seven catches of 20 or more yards put him one shy of his career best. He has already hauled in a career-long 48-yarder this season.
“Though teams don’t consider Doubs the type of field stretcher who must be double-teamed consistently, he gets open, he’s tough and he’s sure-handed,” Fowler adds.

Capable of operating at multiple levels of the field, Doubs is the type of free agent receiver who could fit a variety of offenses – it just won’t be with the Packers. With Reed and Watson hopefully healthy next season, and rookies Matthew Golden and Savion Williams entering year two, Green Bay should have enough weapons to choose not to shell out for Doubs now that he appears poised for a lucrative pay day.
