Key Pittsburgh Steelers offensive starter battling ‘annoying’ injury

PITTSBURGH --Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Broderick Jones is battling the same groin issue he had during training camp, the left tackle said on Thursday. Jones said he returned to practice on Thursday with much of his usual workload, but the groin issue popping was ‘annoying.’

Jones says the injury is a ‘minor tweak’ but with his participation in practice on Thursday, that would signal good news for him, and that he will likely be able to play.

Along with starting left guard Isaac Seumalo being limited due to a pec injury, the entire left side of the Steelers’ offensive line ended up on the injury report the first two days of the week.

Jones, who has started every game this year, finished the team’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers without coming out. He was also not named as an injury by Mike Tomlin on Tuesday, likely signaling that he should be okay for Sunday.

He suffered a groin injury during training camp and missed a week with the issue before returning. Since then, Jones has been a full participant in all practices the Steelers have had, and he has become a crucial piece to their success.

If he could not play, the Steelers would likely turn to veteran Calvin Anderson. Anderson has not started a game for the Steelers but is their swing tackle, and would play on either side if Jones or Troy Fautanu got injured.

As such, Anderson will see a lot of reps in practice this week and could even go into the game as a starter against a battered Bengals pass rush.
