England beat Serbia as Thomas Tuchel has Arsenal to thank with record in sight

England beat Serbia 2-0 at Wembley as Thomas Tuchel's side maintained their 100% record in qualifying for next summer's World Cup.

England went into the clash knowing it was of little significance for the Three Lions, despite it being a World Cup qualifier, as they had already secured their ticket to the 2026 World Cup in America, Mexico and Canada thanks to a 5-0 thrashing of Latvia at Riga's Daugava Stadium in October.

Having already topped UEFA World Cup Qualifiers Group K due to winning seven from seven games, this game was a mere formality for the home side. Yet for Serbia, in third and four points behind second placed Albania, it was still very much a going concern.

The deadlock was broken in the 28th minute when a free kick from Arsenal man Declan Rice was punched clear by the Serbia goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic, only for it to fall to Manchester City's Nico O'Reilly, who hit it first time with a great volley.

That shot was blocked and the ball fell to Arsenal talisman Saka, who dispatched it into the net. It was a brilliant finish, even if the Gunners man gave fans a worry afterwards by limping and signalling to the bench, only for it to be later revealed that he simply wanted to change his boots after feeling some discomfort.

With six goals already for Arsenal this season - as well as a couple for the Three Lions - it's looking like another standout season for the winger. And another Arsenal attacker, Eberechi Eze, put the game beyond doubt late on with a fine strike of his own.

The Three Lions were never overly troubled but an experimental side understandably didn't always look the most fluid in terms of attacking play.

However, German manager Tuchel knows his team are now just one game away from an unbeaten World Cup qualifying campaign and could finish it with an impressive flawless record.

Jude Bellingham's return to the international fold was a highlight of the second-half, as Tuchel continues to mull over his squad for next summer's tournament.

There were other moments of worry besides the Saka situation - as goalkeeper Jordan Pickford gave England and Everton a scare midway through the first-half as he went down for medical treatment, but he was fine to continue.

Serbia star Ivan Ilic was also assisted off the pitch in the first half, after seemingly suffering a serious knee injury when he caught his studs in the turf.

Manchester United outcast Marcus Rashford, on loan at Barcelona, continued his impressive form of late with a strong showing on the left wing, having four shots, more than any other England man.

Eze sealed the deal with a goal as the clock struck 90 minutes. Bellingham fed Phil Foden, both having come on as substitutes, before he found Eze, who bent it into the right hand corner of the net.

Arsenal are flying high in the Premier League with the table toppers four points ahead of Manchester City and Mikel Areteta's men are clearly taking that form onto the international stage.

Tuchel is blessed with an array of attacking options but on this evidence, the likes of Saka, Eze and of course Rice must be shoe-ins to be on the plane that jets off to the US next year.
