Roy Keane's body language said it all when Anthony Martial's name cropped up during a recent episode of The Overlap. The former Manchester United captain slumped back in his chair and gazed at the ceiling at the mere mention of the ex-Red Devils striker.
The United legend was alongside Gary Neville, Ian Wright, Jill Scott, Paul Scholes and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Thursday's instalment of the podcast, with the panel dissecting all things Old Trafford. As the show neared its end, Neville fired quick questions at Solskjaer about his managerial stint between 2018 and 2021.
When quizzed about his top goalscorer, the Norwegian immediately replied Marcus Rashford - who bagged 54 strikes under Solskjaer's watch, with Martial mentioned as runner-up. But as Neville pressed the former boss for his thoughts on the French striker's time in the north west, Keane's theatrical response cut any reply short, reports the Manchester Evening News.
The Irishman dramatically flung himself backwards into his seat as Neville spoke, grinning whilst staring blankly at the studio roof. Following a brief giggle from the group, Solskjaer responded: "So talented. On his day he was unplayable."
When Neville directly asked Keane about his feelings towards Martial, the 54-year-old pulled a face before delivering his verdict: "That's not a good thing what Ole just said. 'On his day,' that means you don't get many of them."
Hopes were sky-high for Martial when he pitched up at Old Trafford in 2015 following a £36 million switch from Monaco. But destiny had different ideas for the striker.
Keane was also especially scathing about the 29-year-old's failure to regularly hit the target in a United shirt, launching a withering attack on Martial after a 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United in December 2023.

Speaking on Sky Sports at the time, he said: "We mention Martial...we forgive Martial because he scores a goal every 14 years. But let me tell you when at Newcastle under pressure, we get that ball into you, you better get hold of that ball to get us up the pitch and a bit of breathing space.
"He's touching balls off and gives the ball away cheaply. You may as well go down the leagues. Man United have been trying to get rid of him a few years ago.

"You judge Man United on what they do in the big matches. If you can't deal with that, maybe you're not a Man United player."
After 90 goals and 54 assists across 317 outings, Martial departed United without a fee last summer - linking up with AEK Athens. Yet his spell in Greece proved brief, as he moved to Monterrey in Liga MX this past September on terms running until 2027 with an option for an additional year.
