The 2025 Dallas Mavericks have gotten off to a rough start. They are 3-9 to start the year, and Anthony Davis is injured, in addition to Kyrie Irving already being out. Cooper Flagg has been solid to start the year, but he is being played at point guard, which is not his natural position. To top it all off, the Mavericks fired general manager Nico Harrison after the season began.
ESPN NBA and Dallas Mavericks reporter Tim McMahon reported on what happened between Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks and told Dan Patrick on Thursday's episode of “The Dan Patrick Show.” When Cuban sold his majority stake in the Mavericks, McMahon said that he had lied and continued to claim that he was running basketball operations, despite having no input on the Mavericks' roster. Instead, all of the decision-making goes through Patrick Dumont, the new Mavericks governor.
Tim MacMahon elaborated more when he said, “There is a lot there. One thing I will tell you. Cuban didn’t help himself when he sold a majority share of the franchise and cashed a multi billion dollar check and told everybody who would listen I’m still in charge of basketball operations. These people, it’s just a real estate play for them. They don’t know what they’re ding with basketball, I do. I’m still in charge don’t worry. When that was not part of the discussion of the deal.”
McMahon also went on to say that Cuban has a history of being a liar, and with him saying he was still involved in basketball operations, it opened the door for Nico Harrison to make the Luka Doncic trade.

“I don’t know if he was trying to speak it into existence or, Cuban, I don’t know how well you know Mark Cuban, but I don’t think he’d do real well on a polygraph test on a regular basis, McMahon went on to say. “He tends to be a little bit full of, you know, execrement.”
