As a gay man, I would normally be very interested in hearing about someone getting a “big load.” That’s not the case when it concerns New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel and rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson.
Vrabel announced this week that Henderson would be getting, in his words, a “big load” in Thursday night’s game against the New York Jets. Count me among those pissed that Vrabel took this long to discover his love of big loads.
I am among the legion of fantasy football players who bought into the Henderson hype in the preseason and drafted him on my team, only to see him get anything but big loads in the first eight games of the season. After he scored .5 points in one game I dropped him out of disgust because I had a lot of players on byes and injuries and figured he was expendable.
Lo and behold, the same player who had been basically relegated to third string much of the season and averaged six fantasy points in a point-per-reception league (that takes talent!) has now averaged 22 points in his last two games.

Vrabel went from having blue balls with Henderson to all of a sudden deciding to feed him big loads. Am I bitter? Of course. As are thousands of fantasy football players who nursed Henderson on their rosters all season and finally got sick of Vrabal giving big loads elsewhere.
Continuing the “Brokeback Mountain” theme with the Patriots, WEEI radio’s Courtney Cox asked if Sunday was Henderson’s “coming out performance.” Vrabel never gave an answer. But when it comes to the “big loads” imagry, maybe the coach consulted with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who once famously said that “I want me some gl*ry hole.”
It’s not clear how long Vrabel will be feeding Henderson a big load. With starter Rhamondre Stevenson expected back soon from injury, maybe Vrabel-Henderson is more of a fling than anything long term and serious.
