After consecutive losses in which the Packers offense totaled 20 points, head coach Matt LaFleur has come under fire for, among other things, some questionable playcalling. A recurring knock on LaFleur is that he tends to clam up in big games or with a lead, opting for conservative calls that can lead to ugly, stagnant offense.
For his part, however, former Lions quarterback and current NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky staunchly defended LaFleur with a rather bold tweet, saying, “Any talk about firing Matt LaFleur is idiotic.” To say the least, such a strong position did not go over well with Packers fans who, though they might not be ready to give LaFleur the boot just yet, are growing weary of his tendencies and lack of playoff success.
Orlovsky’s statement perceived as tone deaf by exasperated fans
It wasn’t all on LaFleur and the Packers on Monday night against the Eagles, whose defense has been playing better and absolutely shut down Green Bay, holding them scoreless until late in the fourth quarter.

The Eagles are a good football team. The Panthers, who took down the Packers 16-13 at home as underdogs of two touchdowns, are not. Frankly, fans are fed up with the inconsistency and what many view as LaFleur’s responsibility in holding back Jordan Love by falling in love instead with the run game and quick passes – not, incidentally, a good strategy against the Philly defense.
But you’ve gone on and on about the offensive issues what else has to change??

It’s not just about the last two games. Under LaFleur in recent seasons, the Packers have underperformed in the biggest games. They have won one playoff game in four years. Going back to last season, they have dropped three straight to the Eagles.
They also went 1-5 in the division, cutting out a clear priority for 2025: win big games and win in the division.
They did that in Week 1 against the Lions, but since the first couple of games, it’s been an up-and-down season despite a 5-3-1 record. The Packers have not had all that hard a schedule. Only three of their opponents – the Lions, Eagles, and Steelers – sit above. 500. They are one second away from having four losses, not three, due to an egregiously poor clock management at the end of overtime in Dallas.

It all adds up to plenty of Packers fans who stand diametrically opposed to Orlovsky’s head-in-the-sand stance.
It’s actually idiotic not to consider it. His offensive scheme is figured out. It’s predictable and ineffective. He’s here because he was considered an offensive innovator. That’s his side of ball. If his offense can’t complement a championship defense, his time is up.

So, while it’s commonplace in the NFL to overreact every week and put coaches on and off the hot seat according to whim, rumblings about LaFleur have been building for a while. Green Bay is an organization with extremely high standards, with a high dose of pressure to perform well every season – not just in the regular season, but in the playoffs too.
🥱 everyone wants to keep a HC that’s holding his offense back. Regular szn All Star & Post season ghost

There is a reason LaFleur didn’t have his contract extended this past offseason, and it’s probably based in large part on the Packers’ failure to take that next step in January and February. In a sports media rarity, the more popular, headline-grabbing opinion that LaFleur could be coaching for his job this postseason is not as farfetched as those on Orlovsky’s side of the fence might think.
