'Lots to reflect' - Harvey Barnes posts delayed 19-word Newcastle United message

Newcastle United x Liverpool - stars showcase unique connection despite club bad blood

Harvey Barnes was the only scorer as Newcastle United were hammered by Brentford in the Premier League last weekend.

Barnes was one of a select few who can hold their head up reasonably high after a wonderfully taken goal had put the Magpies head down in West London. However, much like seven days previously at West Ham, Eddie Howe’s men collapsed to another 3-1 loss with defensive errors aplenty.

Posting to his Instagram account, Barnes said: “Thanks for all your support so far this season. Lots to reflect on during the break. See you soon.”

The message was well received by visitors to his socials. With lots jumping to show their support for Barnes, after what has been a tough few weeks for the black and whites.

Harvey Barnes sets ambitious Newcastle United target after Premier League capitulation

Speaking on Sunday, Barnes said he believes the international break has come at the right time for Newcastle United - tasking the squad with a major ‘reset’ as they look to rescue their spiralling Premier League season.

The Magpies suffered their fifth defeat of the league campaign against Brentford, a result which mirrored the Magpies’ performance at the Gtech Stadium last season. Barnes had given Eddie Howe’s side the lead in the opening period but three second half strikes from Kevin Schade and two from Igor Thiago sealed the deal for the Bees. The result has many fans on social media mentioning the word ‘relegation’ even if it is with a small ‘r’.

Barnes admits the result and performance were not good enough - and admits it’s time for Newcastle to ‘hit the ground running’ with Man City up next at St James’ Park.

Barnes speaking to Sky Sports, said: "Very disappointed. We are disappointed in today's result, and we haven't stopped the trend of away results not quite being there. We have conceded poor goals and it has cost us.

"The first goal was a long throw, which we are seeing so much this year and we have to be able to deal with them. We can't let that cost us. Then the game got away from us. The penalty, goal and sending off all at once made it hard for us. It is a disappointing afternoon.

"Hopefully (the international break) gives us a bit of time to get together after it and work hard and get the details right. We need to hit the ground running after this break.

"It is hard to see what the difference is (between the Premier League results and Champions League). There shouldn't be, really. The results shouldn't differ as much as they are. Hopefully this break gives us time to assess and reset going into the next bunch of games."
