The latest news from both sides of the Old Firm during the International break.

A former Leeds United fan favourite has found a new EFL Championship club despite Celtic links, while a Rangers managerial target has spoken out about why he didn’t get the Ibrox vacancy.

Celtic went into the break in high spirits with a 4-0 thrashing of Kilmarnock, in which Johnny Kenny found himself on the scoresheet yet again. While fans still haven’t forgiven the board for failing to replace the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi and Adam Idah up top, the current crop are currently managing to do their bit in forward areas. Brendan Rodgers had his eye on a former Leeds United striker earlier in the window. After being a free agent for three months, the veteran number nine has found a new club.

On the other side of the city, Rangers are enjoying somewhat of a mini-revival with Danny Rohl at the helm. The Govan side have won three out of three in the league so far since the German’s appointment, with their latest victory coming against Dundee in a 3-0 Dens Park rout. After nearly a full 45 minutes of the travelling fans singing Rohl’s name to the tune of Boney M’s ‘Daddy Cool’, it’s fair to say that he is slowly but surely ingratiating himself to the Ibrox faithful. Rohl beat a lot of big names to acquire the Govan hot seat, including Manchester United legend, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, who has revealed all as to why he never got the job.

Here’s a look at the latest news stories coming from both Celtic Park and Ibrox ahead of the International break:

Bamford makes shock Sheffield United move

EFL Championship strugglers, Sheffield United have completed the signing of free agent, Patrick Bamford, who left Leeds by mutual consent in August. With limited options due to the closure of the transfer window, Celtic were interested in the former England International at one stage but opted for Kelechi Iheanacho instead.

The 32-year old has a wealth of experience, having now played for ten clubs south of the border, however he had fallen out of favour at Elland Road last season which eventually led to his departure. He now joins a Sheffield United side sitting in the relegation zone of the Championship despite finishing third place last season. Bamford may have some bridges to build with new boss, Chris Wilder, as a video has emerged of the him aiming expletives towards the Blades gaffer after Leeds won the league in May.

However, if he does make his way into the team, the Yorkshire side will be signing a once-prolific striker, who would be an asset to any side if he could recapture his past glories. In Leeds’ first stint back in the top flight in over 15 years, Bamford netted 17 Premier League goals in the 2020/21 season.

Ole opens up on Rangers snub

The Norwegian coach was one of the favourites for the Ibrox vacancy however denies there was ever any formal approach. Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast alongside Gary Neville and Roy Keane, he said: “no, I didn't speak to them (Rangers). I personally didn't anyway.

"However, they called my agent, and my agent rings whenever there's (interest), and we ended up talking. I'm looking (for a job). It's not like I'm desperate to be back in, but yeah, I can be (available). It's all about working with people, and I love just trying to make the most or make them (players) be the best version of themselves and help the club."

Having been sacked by Besiktas in August despite only being at the club eight months, the former Manchester United and Cardiff City manager is currently looking for a new club after being pipped to the Ibrox vacancy by Rohl.
