Sweden have confirmed Newcastle United’s Emil Krafth received a late call up due to concerns over Leeds United defender Gabriel Gudmundsson’s fitness.
Sweden national team official Stefan Pettersson had a chat with Sportbladet to discuss the latest on the national team’s situation.
On Thursday, Fotbollskanalen stated the Leeds United summer signing missed yesterday’s training due to a mysterious injury. Later that day, Sweden confirmed the Newcastle United fullback has been called up to replace Tottenham Hotspur’s Lucas Bergvall.
The 31-year-old Newcastle United player’s preferred position is in the right side of defence. Bergvall, on the other hand, has been deployed in midfield for both club and country.
Therefore, Sportbladet asked the national team official about Graham Potter’s decision to replace the Tottenham youngster with Krafth. When responding to that, he mentioned fitness concerns over Leeds United’s Gabriel Gudmundsson.
“Graham Potter and the leaders consider that we have a replacement in the squad for Lucas. Emil Krafth is partly because there is a little uncertainty about Gabriel Gudmundsson,” he said.

Gudmundsson didn’t take part in training on Thursday, as we covered.
It’s to be noted Gudmundsson usually plays as a left-back, the position Daniel Farke has used him in at Leeds United. He can also be deployed as a right-back.
The 26-year-old has started every league match for the Whites this season. Farke will hope Gudmundsson is fit on time for when Leeds United face Aston Villa on November 23rd.
