Real Madrid academy star reveals what pushed him to leave in summer – ‘Been thinking about it…

Chema Andres may only be 20, but the former Real Madrid midfielder has already shown remarkable maturity since deciding to take a new step in his career.

After leaving Los Blancos in the summer to join Stuttgart, the young defensive midfielder has settled impressively into life in Germany.

His performances reflect that confidence too, having already featured in 12 matches across all competitions, contributing a goal and an assist in his first few months.

During a detailed conversation with AS, Chema reflected openly on his time at Real Madrid and the thought process behind his departure.

One of the first topics addressed was whether his limited participation at the Club World Cup was the final push that made him leave.

Offering an honest explanation, he admitted that while it played a part, his decision was already forming in his mind. He explained this clearly, saying,

“I don’t think it was the decisive factor, but it did tip the balance. I had been thinking about it for a while, but I waited until after the World Cup so as not to get ahead of myself.”

Gonzalo Garcia’s situation

The interviewer then raised a hypothetical scenario involving Gonzalo’s situation at the Club World Cup, asking whether such an event would have changed Chema’s decision.

The young Spaniard responded by stressing how unpredictable football can be and why he chose to wait before making any big moves. He said,

“Of course. Things like that change your outlook. That’s why I waited.

“You never know what might happen, so I chose not to rush into anything and wait until after the World Cup.”

When asked which profile he sees himself closer to between Sergio Busquets and Rodri, Chema chose to distance himself from direct comparisons with either Spanish icon.

Yet he did admit there is one aspect that makes him lean towards Rodri. He noted,

“I don’t see myself as either, to be honest. If I had to choose, I’d say Rodri because he also tucks his shirt in, but let’s be clear, they’re both a thousand times better than me.

“However, it is also true that people compare me to Rodri because of my physique.”

Praise for Tchouameni

The conversation eventually shifted towards his view on the world’s midfield elite.

In this regard, he had no hesitation in placing a current Real Madrid star above the rest. Offering firm praise, he stated,

“There are some very good ones, but the one who is at the highest level right now is Tchouameni. He’s one of the best players at Madrid, which says it all.”

Finally, Chema discussed what it is like sharing a dressing room with Angelo Stiller, a player previously linked with Real Madrid.

Speaking highly of his Stuttgart teammate, he highlighted his influence and overall quality, saying,

“On the pitch, he’s the cornerstone of Stuttgart. He’s the one who calls the shots, who runs the show. The team plays the way he wants them to.

“He’s a spectacular player, not only with the ball, but also in defence. He has what it takes to make the leap to a top team, without a doubt,” he added.
