Brighton striker Danny Welbeck should return to Manchester United, according to for Liverpool and West Ham man Don Hutchinson.

Welbeck has been excellent for Brighton this term and already has six Premier League goals to his name this season.

The former Manchester United and Arsenal man will be 35 later this month but remains a serious threat to Premier League defences.

Welbeck’s recent form placed him on the brink of England call-up to Thomas Tuchel’s latest England squad. The Albion striker narrowly missed out but he could still be in the running for the place at this summer’s World Cup as a back-up to striker Harry Kane.

Hutchinson though feels Welbeck would be perfect at Manchester United and has urged the club to make a January move the striker.

“I mean, it'd be a brilliant fit,” said Hutchinson to.

“He'd be a fantastic signing because Danny Welbeck's one of those players, where if he went back to Man United, it would be like when Jonny Evans returned.

“When Johnny Evans went back there a couple of years ago, he was happy to be a sort of mentor inside the dressing room.

Welbeck could be a perfect mentor for Sesko

“He was happy to be a mentor to the players that were playing. He was happy to play his part when needed. He was happy to be on the bench.

“I think Danny Welbeck going to Man United would be a really good fit in terms of he can still play, he can still score goals, he's still really fit.

“But he would still have the attitude where it would be a fantastic move forward, being back to Man United with the knowledge that he'd be mentoring the likes of Sesko.

“I think it would be a perfect move.”

Welbeck started his career at Old Trafford as he progressed through the youth ranks. He made 142 appearances for the Red Devils and scored 29 goals with 16 assists.

He left United for Arsenal in 2014 and netted 32 goals and 13 assists from 126 outings. From there he moved on to Watford for an injury-hit spell at Vicarage Road before joining Brighton in 2020 on a free.

Welbeck has been excellent for the Seagulls and has 43 goals from 174 appearances with 17 assists.
