On summer deadline day, Manchester City allowed Manuel Akanji to join Inter Milan on a season-long loan deal. The Italian club are said to have secured an option to buy set at €15m.
Pep Guardiola didn’t include Akanji in his core plans at Manchester City this season. The 30-year-old has seen his situation improve since moving to the San Siro.
The Switzerland international has already cemented his place for the Serie A side, making 14 appearances so far. He’s currently with the national team preparing for the World Cup qualifier against Sweden and Kosovo.
Akanji has been speaking to the Swiss media about his life at Inter, and [Luzerner Zeitung](https://www.luzernerzeitung.ch/sport/schweizer-nati-inter-star-manuel-akanji-ueber-sein-neues-leben-und-yann-sommer-ld.4044489) have relayed his comments.
The centre-back explained he’s recently found an apartment in Milan.
_“At first, we moved from hotel to hotel, then to two Airbnbs, and temporarily into an apartment. We’ve been in our permanent apartment for 10 days now,”_ he said.
_“The move was the hardest part for our three children, and we also have to find them a new school. There are still many things to sort out, but it’s going very well._
_“Although everything happened so quickly, I was still able to say goodbye to Manchester City later. I organised a dinner for the players, and almost all of them came.”_
Akanji’s contract at Manchester City will expire in 2027. Earlier this month, he [appeared keen on securing](https://sportwitness.co.uk/they-seem-happy-manchester-city-man-appears-keen-on-permanent-exit/) a permanent move to Inter.
The defender has again expressed his desire to extend his stay with the Nerazzurri beyond this season. He explained why a move to Italy at this stage of this career clearly suits him.
When asked about life at Inter, Akanji said: _“I’ve settled in well, which is naturally easier because I’m playing. Things are going well, we’re finally top of the table, and we’d be happy to stay there._
_“Football in Italy is different from England. Serie A is less physical than Premier League. Many Italian teams play a 3-5-2 or something similar; there are fewer fast wingers. They also play with more control and more often use crosses from the wings into the middle. That suits me, and I think my performances have been good so far.”_
_“Who knows what will happen next summer? As things stand, though, I’d really like to stay at Inter after my loan ends.”_
