Burnley Women return to Turf Moor to take on Rams

The high-flying Clarets will be aiming for a seventh straight victory in all competitions but will face healthy competition from the Ewes.

Lou Roberts’ side head into this weekend’s game on the back of a 4-0 victory over Real Bedford that secured their place in the quarter finals of the FA Women’s National League Cup.

Aimee Kelly’s quickfire double mid-way through the first half gave Burnley control of the cup tie and the Clarets did well to repel Bedford’s advances, before adding a further two goals of their own.

After Heidi picked out the bottom right corner with a smart finish, substitute Charlie Chadwick added extra gloss to the afternoon from close range.

Burnley’s last league outing was at Stoke City the week prior, and it was Millie Ravening who stole the headlines with her brace as part of a 2-1 victory.

Roberts and co currently sit top of the 12-team table with 23 points from their nine matches.

Derby County are competing at the other end of the standings and are 9th at present, having picked up 10 points from their nine outings.

They’ve come from three wins and a draw, and the Ewes head into this one on the back of a 1-0 triumph at Liverpool Feds last time out.

Hannah Ward’s first-half effort proved to be the difference between the two sides, and it was a timely result for Derby, who were previously winless in their last four in all competitions.

The East Midlanders are led by Sam Griffiths, a former player who has had the managerial reins since 2018.

Players to look out for include Kate Oakley, who leads their goal scoring charts with four, and captain Emily Joyce, who is also their longest-serving player having joined in 2018.

Burnley did the double over Derby last season, starting with a 2-0 victory at Leyland in October 2024.

The goals came from the centre-midfield duo that day, with Brenna McPartlan looping a header over the ‘keeper from eight yards before Amelia Hazard swept in a corner from close range.

Then came a 4-0 scoreline at their place in February of this year. A Claudia Walker strike and an own goal gave Burnley control, allowing debutant Danielle Maxwell and Laura Elford to add extra gloss in the second half.
