Premier League champions Liverpool may part ways with 22-year-old Scottish international Calvin Ramsay in the winter transfer window if they receive the right offer.
According to a report by Football Insider, Calvin Ramsay faces an uncertain future at Liverpool FC heading into the winter transfer window. The Premier League champions are mulling over parting ways with the 22-year-old full-back if they receive “the right offer” for him in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, the Scot is also keen on embarking on a new adventure in the winter transfer window after struggling for game time since joining Liverpool from Aberdeen. Pete O’Rourke commented on the situation during a conversation on the Inside Track Podcast.
Pete O’Rourke on Calvin Ramsay future
He said, “Calvin Ramsay came out of the cold really at Liverpool to play in that Carabao Cup game against Crystal Palace. He was one of Liverpool’s better performers. It’s going to be hard for him to break inside the Liverpool team long-term, I think that’s probably the big issue facing Calvin Ramsay. You’ve got Conor Bradley, Jeremie Frimpong all ahead of him in the first team and most of the time he’s spent at Anfield he has spent that on loan.”
“He’s been out on loan at Bolton, Wigan, Kilmarnock as well and he’s had a few injury problems as well which have set him back. But, I think potentially Liverpool could be open to offers for Ramsay in January, just to get him some first team minutes as well. He didn’t do himself any harm with that performance against Crystal Palace and that might bring a few clubs to the table for him in January.”
Ramsay and his Liverpool career so far
Calvin Ramsay has endured a frustrating journey since joining Liverpool from Aberdeen in July 2022. A native of Aberdeen, the Scot spent his formative years in his homeland and graduated from the youth division at his hometown club. However, the 22-year-old has not fulfilled his potential during his spell with Liverpool, with fitness issues plaguing him.
Additionally, the Scottish international has embarked on four loan spells away from Liverpool, with the right-back unit stacked at the Merseyside club. Trent Alexander-Arnold was the undisputed first-choice right-back for several seasons, with Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong ahead of Ramsay in the pecking order this season.
So, a winter departure may be in Ramsay’s best interests, as he will not receive regular game time after Liverpool’s ouster from the EFL Cup. While recent reports have claimed that the Reds may keep the 22-year-old Scottish full-back amid links with Rangers, they are ready to entertain offers for him in the coming weeks. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the youngster.
