‘Talks underway’ – Newcastle United player could leave as soon as January

Newcastle United’s Fabian Schär is attracting interest from Germany, according to Sky Deutschland.

The 33-year-old has been a key part of the Newcastle United squad since joining from Deportivo La Coruña in 2018. He’s been a regular for the Magpies until the end of last season.

Schär started this season as a regular for Eddie Howe before losing his place, he’s subsequently made six league appearances, which includes four starts.

The Swiss defender is in his final year of contract, and his future could be away from Newcastle United. Sky claims his ‘departure seems likely’ next summer and an exit is also possible in the winter market.

Schär spent two years at TSG Hoffenheim between 2015 and 2017, and could return to the Bundesliga next year. According to the report, there are clubs keen on securing his services and ‘talks are underway’.

Sky Deutschland haven’t reported the details of clubs interested in the Newcastle United player. It’s also not clear whether the Premier League side are open to letting him leave in January.

With Schär’s game time limited so far this season, he could he heading towards the exit door.
