It may only be the middle of November but the transfer talk around Leeds United has already started. With the club struggling for goals and wins in the Premier League it is an obvious jumping off point for speculation surrounding who the Whites could sign in January to aid their cause.
One name linked in the national media in the past few days is former Brentford and England striker Ivan Toney. The 29-year-old is currently in the Saudi Pro League, where he has been scoring goals for fun and helping club side Al-Ahli to the AFC Champions League Elite title.
There had been reports Toney was looking for a way back to the Premier League and that Leeds United were one potential option, with Manchester United also previously linked. That speculation has not been confirmed, but now looks a moot point anyway after the transfer talk was firmly shot down by Al-Ahli club director Rui Pedro Braz.
The club director says rumours of a January exit are 'not based in reality' and made it clear that Toney will be going nowhere in the January transfer window.
As reported by transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Braz said; “Ivan Toney is a top player, a top striker. The rumours around his possible exit in January are not based on reality.
“It’s just not true. We’re counting on him; it makes zero sense to address this subject in November.”
