Source close to Newcastle United player puts brakes on permanent exit – Even €5m is too much

Newcastle United let Odysseas Vlachodimos join Sevilla on loan in August.

The goalkeeper spent his first month on the bench and made his debut against Alavés in September. He’s started in every league game since then.

Later that month, Estadio Deportivo reported the 31-year-old wants Newcastle United to sell him next summer for around €5m. Diario de Sevilla suggested the La Liga side are expected to negotiate with the Magpies to buy him.

Fast forward to November and today’s ABC Sevilla looks at Sevilla’s chances of keeping the stopper beyond this season.

Newcastle United signed Vlachodimos from Nottingham Forest for around €23.6m in July 2024. He wasn’t used by Eddie Howe, but his situation has improved this season. The goalkeeper has two clean sheets and has conceded 12 goals from eight matches.

The newspaper found out from a source close to the Greece international that he’s ‘very comfortable and enjoying’ life at Sevilla. It’s claimed the same source also pointed out he has a long-term contract at Newcastle United, calming talk of an impending permanent deal.

According to the report, Vlachodimos is currently valued at €5m and ABC Sevilla reports the Spanish club can’t even afford to pay this. It’s highly unlikely the Premier League side would sell him for that price.

Sevilla aren’t in a comfortable position financially and therefore have to be cautious with their spendings. That said, they’re often cheap when it comes to transfers.
