Leeds United loanee nominated for EFL award and another could follow

Inside Elland: Road Defensive problems

A Leeds United loanee's spell away from Elland Road just keeps getting better, with his latest award nomination almost certain to be followed by another.

Joe Gelhardt is having a hell of a time at Hull City. Regular football is obviously agreeing with the 23-year-old, who already boasts seven goals and a pair of assists in the Championship this season. His last six games have brought five goals and both of his assists.

One of the goals he scored in October in an impressive 2-1 win over parachute payment side Leicester City has been nominated for the division's Goal of the Month award.

Gelhardt has been responsible for better finishes than the one in question - he's a player Daniel Farke once joked could 'kill a cow' with a shot - but it was the intricate nature of the move that led to the goal that earned it a shortlisting. An EFL statement said: "Gelhardt scored, but his goal will be remembered for the mesmerising move full of intricate patterns and perfectly weighted passes involving four Hull players that preceded his tap-in." He goes up against Millwall's Femi Azeez, Ipswich Town's Jaden Philogene and Leicester man Aaron Ramsey. Voting is now open HERE and will close at 5pm on Monday November 17. The winners will be announced at 10am next Friday.

It would be no surprise if Gelhardt earns himself a mention in November's award nomations too. The winner he provided for Hull City in their 3-2 victory over Portsmouth last weekend was one of the prettiest he might ever score. Latching onto an aerial through ball, the loanee took the ball down deftly, danced into the penalty area and dinked it over Pompey keeper Josef Bursik.

Gelhardt's contract at Leeds runs to the summer of 2027. This is his second loan stint with Hull, having joined them for the second half of last season. Former Whites midfielder Darko Gyabi also moved to Hull in the summer and has made 10 appearances in the Championship this season, nine of which have been as a substitute. The Tigers currently sit fifth in the table.
