Serge Gnabry to Liverpool latest: Reds respond after Bayern Munich star makes approach

Exclusive with Graeme Bailey.

Liverpool are not actively pursuing the chance to sign Serge Gnabry as a free agent next summer, Rousing The Kop understands.

Gnabry’s Bayern Munich contract is set to expire in 2026, and his agents are understood to be exploring their options ahead of a possible departure.

RTK have been told that Liverpool were contacted as part of this process, with the Reds being made aware that Gnabry could soon be available.

Liverpool are admirers of the 30-year-old having watched him closely in the past, but there are currently no plans to recruit him next year.

The Reds are being kept informed of the situation, but conversations are understood to have been purely preliminary at this stage.

Sources: Liverpool not pushing for Serge Gnabry deal

Liverpool could be looking to bolster their forward line further next summer and are understood to be open to signing another winger.

However, despite Gnabry’s potential availability, RTK have been told that it is not a deal Liverpool are pushing for as things stand.

As transfer insider Graeme Bailey exclusively explains to RTK, interest between Gnabry and Liverpool is currently being led by the player’s side, rather than anyone at Anfield.

Who has been Liverpool’s best summer signing?

“Liverpool have been offered Serge Gnabry by intermediaries, making them aware of a possible free transfer opportunity,” says the journalist.

“Likewise, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and Juventus are amongst the other clubs that have also been spoken to.

“Gnabry is out-of-contract at the end of the season and he is continuing talks with Bayern, but his camp and intermediaries are doing their jobs by contacting them.

“And that is the position. Liverpool have an historic interest and are aware of Gnabry, and that is where we are at, they have been kept informed but they have not spoken to them at any length. From what I am told Liverpool are not pushing massively at this point.”

Liverpool return unlikely for Harvey Elliott

Although Liverpool are potentially in the market for another forward addition in 2026, RTK understands that a move to bring Harvey Elliott back to Anfield is currently unlikely.

As we revealed earlier in the week, Liverpool have considered a January return for Elliott. However, as Bailey now explains, the Reds are still expecting the 22-year-old to trigger an obligation to buy at Aston Villa.

“I’m told that if Elliott is not involved between now and January it means Villa are making sure they don’t kick in the obligation and Liverpool will then bring him back in January,” he says.

“But they [Liverpool] don’t think that will be the case. But, obviously, let’s see how the next six weeks pan out basically.”
