Kylian Mbappé leaves France set-up to return to Real Madrid

The French Football Federation (FFF) have confirmed that Kylian Mbappé (26) will not play in France’s final FIFA World Cup qualifier, against Azerbaijan.

The France squad, having sealed qualification for the World Cup following a 4-0 win over Ukraine on Thursday, will now quickly travel to Azerbaijan to conclude their campaign. However, Mbappé, who netted a brace in that game to close in on Olivier Giroud’s record of 57 goals for _Les Bleus,_ will not join them.

In a communiqué, the federation revealed that the France captain is suffering from some inflammation in his right ankle. As a result, he must undergo further tests. Mbappé will therefore not travel with the France squad and will instead return to his club.

Mbappé will play no part in the dead rubber. Manu Koné, suspended, has also left the camp, as has Eduardo Camavinga, who also returns to Real Madrid. The latter has been struggling with a minor hamstring issue, which ruled him out of Thursday night’s 4-0 win.
