Nick Woltemade is set to make his latest start for Germany on Friday night, now established in the national side since arriving at Newcastle United.
Malick Thiaw could be set to start alongside him as well against Luxembourg, with Nico Schlotterbeck injured.
In the lead up to tonight’s game, Nick Woltemade has been interviewed by the official German FA media.
Big Nick asked about his leadership qualities and his progress since arriving at Newcastle United and working with Eddie Howe, coping with the demands of the Premier League and Champions League.
A lot of responsibility put on Nick Woltemade, with club and country, as injuries to the likes of Havertz and Wissa have meant he has had to start pretty much all the matches in recent months.
Nick Woltemade on what he’s learned since signing for Newcastle United and working under Eddie Howe:
“The biggest difference in the Premier League is the intensity and physicality – that took some getting used to.
“In the first few games I was getting cramp quite regularly.
“But now my game has become more intense.
“I can sprint more.
“Press more effectively,
“Contribute better defensively.
“It has really improved my overall game.”
Nick Woltemade asked about his leadership qualities:
“I’m quite a calm player on the pitch.
“I try to focus on my own game.
“I haven’t been here that long, I’ve played every game, but I’m not the kind of guy who gives big motivational speeches.
“I prefer to motivate people one-on-one and make sure everyone feels good.
“I’m a pretty relaxed person and easy to get along with.”
Nick Woltemade on how the Germany team are looking to approach the game against Luxembourg:
“We want to defend and attack as a unit, creativity will be key.
“We have got players who can create danger, who understand space and have good movement in behind.
“We’ve been solid defensively in recent matches.
“It (against Luxembourg) would be the perfect time to show some bravery in attack again and find the back of the net.”
