Official: Real Madrid superstar withdraws from national team duty with ankle issue

Real Madrid’s search for a new centre-back next summer is already taking shape, and a fresh name has entered the discussion.

As reported by Defensa Central, the club are not limiting their options to Ibrahima Konate and Dayot Upamecano.

In fact, another defender attracting attention inside Valdebebas is Joel Ordonez, the 21-year-old Ecuadorian who has become one of the standout performers of this season’s Champions League.

Ordonez, currently at Club Brugge, is turning heads across Europe with displays that show a maturity far beyond his age.

Real Madrid know better than anyone that the centre-back position must be reinforced in the coming window, and the Ecuadorian is quickly becoming a serious candidate if he keeps playing at this level.

What is Real Madrid’s plan?

Konate and Upamecano remain the top two targets for the club, mainly because their contracts are approaching expiry and both players have international experience at the highest level.

But Real Madrid also understand the realities of the market. If either defender chooses to renew for higher wages, alternatives have to be ready, and this is where Ordonez becomes relevant.

What makes him so interesting is not only his physical strength or his aggressive marking, but his intelligence.

With the ball, he keeps calm, plays long passes when needed, and controls the tempo rather than rushing decisions.

What about the fee?

Club Brugge tied him down until 2029, and last summer, they were clear that he would not leave for less than €25 million. But given his rise, that figure will not remain the same for long.

His value is increasing every week, and more than half of Europe are lining up to make a move.

As such, PSG, Inter, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool are all preparing to battle for him, and Real Madrid are fully aware of the competition.

The club’s focus will stay on Konate and Upamecano for now, but Ordonez is no longer just a name on a list.
