Ezri Konsa was among England’s highest-rated players in their 2-0 win over Serbia during the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Konsa was one of several Aston Villa players called up for international duty this November break.

The defender has featured heavily for Unai Emery this season and was solid during Villa’s latest 4-0 triumph over Bournemouth in the Premier League.

Indeed, Konsa has been a key player for Emery this period, and his recent World Cup qualifying performances have sent a firm message to Thomas Tuchel when deciding his team for the competition that commences this summer.

Ezri Konsa praised as England’s best defender

Konsa was given another opportunity to impress Tuchel, with Marc Guehi still sidelined due to injury.

The centre-back not only grabbed the chance with both hands, but also put on one of the best performances of the evening.

He covered for Reece James when England were stretched a tad in transition, particularly during the second half, according to GOAL on 13 November, who rated his performance a seven.

Furthermore, he also made five recoveries, two clearances and blocked one shot, according to Sofascore.

Meanwhile, The Guardian, who also rated his display a seven, pointed out that Konsa coped with the physical challenge of Dusan Vlahovic and looks a real contender, along with Guehi, to partner John Stones at the World Cup.

It was a flawless performance from beginning to end, where he displayed the same brilliance Villa fans have been crying out about for years.

How has Ezri Konsa performed for England during the World Cup qualifiers?

Konsa has made seven appearances for England during the World Cup qualifiers, starting six of the games.

He has been a strong force at the back, winning 73 per cent of his total duels as well as recovering 4.1 balls per game.

The defender has even had time to help out England’s attack, netting one goal from 0.7 total shots. He has also registered a 20 per cent conversion rate.

The best word to describe Konsa’s recent performances for England would be complete, and if they’ve shown Tuchel anything, Konsa deserves to start at the World Cup this summer.
