Among the many names being touted as a potential next Middlesbrough manager are familiar faces in Steven Gerrard, Brendan Rodgers and even a potential return for the not so long-ago sacked Boro boss Michael Carrick. One name has now been added to the list which has caused something of a stir, and this is former Leeds United striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.
The 53-year-old is of course a former Middlesbrough player too, have spent two years at the Riverside Stadium following four hugely successful years at Chelsea. According to the Sun journalist Alan Nixon, Hasselbaink is a shock contender to add to the list of candidates, with the former Netherlands international eager to get back into management.
Having started his management career at Royal Antwerp, Hasselbaink has coached three EFL clubs previously in Queens Park Rangers, Northampton Town and Burton Albion, where he had two spells, the last ending in 2022.
Three years out of management and without an extensive CV as a manager, turning to the former Boro striker would be seen as a big gamble by Boro supremo Steve Gibson, however he does have history of making such gambles with his choice of manager.
Middlesbrough currently sit second in the Championship standings and remain hopeful of having a serious push at promotion to the Premier League.
Meanwhile, former manager Rod Edwards will be hoping he can make a telling impact by keeping Wolves in the top flight despite their current perilous position at the foot of the table.
