Boston Red Sox fans hoping to trade for Freddie Peralta this offseason, you might want to lean in here. According to a new report from USA Today’s MLB insider Bob Nightengale, who was in Las Vegas this week for the annual MLB GM Meetings, the Milwaukee Brewers president of baseball operations Matt Arnold said that the Brewers are not interested in trading Peralta right now. “The Milwaukee Brewers reiterated they have no intention of trading ace Freddy Peralta, said Matt Arnold, Brewers president of baseball operations,” Nightengale wrote on Thursday night. “They will listen, but considering Peralta is owed only $8 million in the final year of his contract, would have to be blown away.” Red Sox fans have been salivating over Peralta in recent days, especially with MLB Network’s Jon Morosi linking Boston to the ace. Peralta has been talked about as one of the top four starting pitcher trade candidates this winter, along with Tarik Skubal, Joe Ryan, and Hunter Greene. Story continues below advertisement The Red Sox have also been linked to Ryan (for months), but Twins president of baseball operations Derek Falvey, like Arnold, said recently that Minnesota would prefer to keep their ace. Executives like Falvey, Arnold or Boston’s chief baseball officer, Craig Breslow, will often blow smoke at the media during the GM Meetings as a means to establish leverage. Peralta and Ryan shouldn’t be considered completely untouchable, but it’s obvious that the price would be steep for either player. If the Red Sox want to land a legit No. 2 starter (as has been communicated by Breslow), they’ll have to pay a pretty penny in the form of top prospects and/or some of their current MLB contributors.
