**In light of recent news, it’s been reported that James Trafford of Manchester City departure from the club is ‘inevitable’ due to being replaced by Donnarumma.**
James Trafford signed for Manchester City in hopes he would be number 1 for Pep Guardiola back at his boyhood club.
To his dismay, it hasn’t ended up like that, but it does bring up the topic of conversation of whether West Ham should try and sign the Englishman.
The young prospect recently had his Premier League experience with Burnley, which saw them get relegated, but his thrilling Championship season sparked interest from numerous clubs. A deal with Newcastle nearly transpired but collapsed at the final hurdle and City triggered the buy-back clause.
He was set to be the number one keeper, but a couple of early errors, along with the fact that Donnarumma had suddenly become available, he soon dropped to the bench, and now the club are set to let him leave and won’t get in his way.
But could West Ham potentially sign him? It certainly would be an option and personally, I could imagine that the only two clubs that would be highly after him in England would be us and Newcastle. Yet, we’d be the favourite to do a deal in January, considering Newcastle already have Pope and a Loan Ramsdale.
The club are rumoured to be looking to get rid of Hermansen already, and if Nuno truly isn’t in favour of him that much, personally, I think it’s bet to cut our losses and perhaps see how much a deal for Trafford would set us back. He’s a good Goalkeeper and regardless of his previous Premier League campaign, there are reasons that a lot of top clubs wanted to sign him, including City too!
Trafford has had a series of unfortunate events and if it weren’t for Donnarumma suddenly being available to be bought, he would’ve been the number one for Pep, and then a prospect of him moving away everyone would’ve said that’d be impossible.
If West Ham were to make a move for the English shot-stopper he was certainly become Nuno Espirito Santo’s number one goalkeeper, Areola has improved, but as we saw against Burnley, he still isn’t great and is capable of some huge mistakes. Trafford would be a massive help in keeping us in the Premier League.
