'I got cramps': Nick Woltemade admits adapting to Premier League life was hard

**Nick Woltemade joined Newcastle United for a deal worth up to £69 million in the dying embers of the summer transfer window.**

Arriving from VfB Stuttgart following a meteoric rise, the 6'6" German international was expected to be slowly introduced to life in the Premier League, but a twist of fate saw that plan thrown in the bin.

Newcastle had also signed Yoane Wissa from Brentford, and the DR Congo striker, with his Premier League experience, was expected to be the main man for Newcastle up top, with Woltemade being given time to adapt.

Unfortunately, a couple of days after signing for Newcastle, Wissa picked up a serious knee injury and two months later, he is yet to make his debut for his new club. As a result, Woltemade has been asked to lead the line this season.

Big Nick will be in action for Germany tonight

Nick Woltemade says his game has improved since moving to the Premier League

Woltemade admitted after his debut that he was cramping up halfway through the game, but he has quickly adapted, and he has now told German reporters (via [Bulinews](https://bulinews.com/game-has-more-intense-woltemade-adapting-the-premier-league)) that he feels his overall game is getting better at Newcastle.

> “The biggest difference compared to the Premier League is the intensity and physicality. I had to get used to it myself. In the first few games, I often suffered from cramps.

>

> “But my game has become more intense now. I can make more sprints, press more effectively, and work better defensively. That really helps my overall performance.”

Nick Woltemade is expected to be in action for Germany tonight

Woltemade hasn't scored in the last few games for Newcastle, but the team has not been providing him with chances to do so as the Magpies' attack has been extremely blunt of late.

Newcastle fans are hoping for an upturn in fortunes when the Premier League returns next weekend, although an away trip to Manchester City is probably the last thing we need right now.

Nick Woltemade will be hoping to add to his solitary goal for Germany this weekend as they take on Luxembourg tonight, followed by Slovakia on Monday.
