The 31-year-old, who was named captain of his country this week, was not involved in training with the Black and Yellows on Friday.
When asked about his absence, Sweden press officer Petra Thoren explained: "A little feeling. He works with physiotherapists in the gym."
Lindelof has made six appearances for Villa in all competitions since joining from Premier League rivals Manchester United in the summer.
He made 284 appearances, scoring four goals, during his eight-year stay at Old Trafford, and has netted three times in 72 caps for Sweden.
Sweden currently sit bottom of Group B, on just one point, and must beat Switzerland to stand any chance of qualifying for next year's World Cup.
