The Cleveland Browns are still trying to get things figured out under center, and while they drafted a pair of quarterbacks in Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders last April, the long-term answer may not be on their roster.
The Browns have yet to give Sanders a chance this season, but given that he was just a fifth-round pick, they may not view him as a legitimate solution moving forward.

Cleveland does own a pair of first-round draft picks in 2026, so the Browns can just take a quarterback then, or they could try and peruse the trade market for options.
Jason Fitz of Yahoo Sports has already identified a potential trade target for Cleveland, naming Jacksonville Jaguars signal-caller Trevor Lawrence as a possibility.
“What about the Browns? Trevor Lawrence to the Browns? What do you think?” Fitz asked Caroline Fenton on the Yahoo Sports Daily podcast. “That’s like a nine (out of 10). I would love this for the Cleveland Browns because it would what it would give them is stability at the quarterback position. When was the last time the Browns had stability at the quarterback position? What Trevor Lawrence can do is come in and give you just enough. You know that he would be your guy for the next five-plus years.”
There has been speculation that the Jaguars could potentially move Lawrence, who has been a massive disappointment for the club since being drafted No. 1 overall back in 2021.
The problem, though, is that Jacksonville signed Lawrence to a five-year, $275 million extension during the summer of 2024, making him a rather difficult piece to trade.
Lawrence has thrown for 1,998 yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions while completing 59.5 percent of his passes and posting a 79.3 passer rating through nine games in 2025.
Given the fact that Lawrence has really only had one good season since entering the league and that he is still due a massive amount of money, the Browns would probably be better off just drafting a quarterback next spring.
Cleveland has already swung an expensive quarterback trade before (Deshaun Watson). It didn’t work and set the Browns back for years. They should probably avoid another similar disaster.
