England moved a step closer to completing a flawless World Cup qualification campaign courtesy of a 2-0 won against Serbia on Thursday night.
Goals from Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze earned the Three Lions a seventh consecutive victory in qualifying, with Thomas Tuchel’s side yet to concede in the competition so far.
Next up for England is a visit to Albania on Sunday for their final match of the qualifying campaign, before they discover their opponents for the tournament when the draw takes place in December.
In the meantime, however, it has emerged that one member of Tuchel’s squad could soon sign a new contract with his current club.
As per Football Insider, Manchester City are close to agreeing a new contract with midfielder Phil Foden.
The 25-year-old is a product of City’s fruitful youth academy and has already played 333 times for the club across all competitions, scoring more than 100 goals and registering in excess of 60 assists.

His current contract is set to expire at the end of the 2026/27 season, though, and the Citizens are therefore keen to tie him down to a long-term deal as soon as possible.
The Englishman was named Premier League Player of the Year at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, but was uncharacteristically out of form last term.
He looks to be heading back to his best, though, having scored four goals and provided three assists for Pep Guardiola’s side already this term.
It is claimed that City are expecting to be able to reach an agreement over a new contract with the player, who provided an assist during England’s win against Serbia on Thursday.
Foden is one of a number of Man City stars – along with the likes of Bernardo Silva and Rodri – who are set to be out of contract at the end of the 2026/27 season.
