Friday’s news brings the latest on Liverpool’s interest in Bournemouth‘s Antoine Semenyo and another verdict on Virgil van Dijk‘s disallowed goal that you will agree with.
Today’s Main LFC Headline
Semenyo has been linked to Liverpool since November last year and Sky Sports reported on Friday that the club continue to monitor the impressive Bournemouth forward.
Man City and Tottenham are also name-checked ahead of the January window, though he has not asked to leave, contrary to reports, and is described as being “annoyed by those claims.”
The Mail‘s Lewis Steele described Liverpool as “keen to sign him in the summer,” with a winter deal “more unlikely than likely.”
The 25-year-old is a player in demand, and Bournemouth recognise they cannot stand in his way, as they showed last summer, and as the club’s general manager Tim Bezbatchenko admitted.

“When a club like Real Madrid, Liverpool, PSG come in and they’re competing for Champions League positions, who are we to say, ‘No, you can’t go, you can’t fulfil your dream’,” he told the Business of Sport podcast.
“But there is an opportunity and everybody wins right? I think that’s what we’re trying to find, this commonality where everybody can win.”
Semenyo to Anfield with Richard Hughes delivering a transfer fee feels like a win-win!

More from This Is Anfield
After the weekend’s events of another non-goal controversy, Joanna Durkan took a look back at some of the biggest recent flashpoints with referees and VAR, it’s quite the list!
“If you were to ask Liverpool fans, with the exception of Diaz’s disallowed goal, what is one of the most controversial decisions that went against the Reds, it would be this one.
On Boxing Day 2013, Brendan Rodgers’ men travelled to the Etihad in a key league fixture and they lost 2-1, but who knows what would have transpired without a calamitous offside call.
Sterling was sent clean through on goal and was onside by a few body lengths, and yet the flag went up – at the time, it was the perfect advertisement for why VAR was needed.”

On this day in 1998, Gerard Houllier took sole charge of Liverpool for the first time after Roy Evans called time on the duo’s shared duties.
Liverpool lost 3-1 to Leeds at Anfield, with Robbie Fowler‘s second-half penalty cancelled out by three goals in seven minutes.
Alan Smith scored on his Leeds debut, with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink completing the turnaround for the visitors.
Thankfully, it was not a sign of things to come as the Frenchman went on to oversee a hugely significant transformation at the club.
