Tuchel already knows what Welbeck can give England at World Cup

Thomas Tuchel says he knows what Danny Welbeck can give his England squad.

And that means he did not need to call him in for the current international window.

The [Albion](https://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/albion/?ref=au) striker missed out on the group to face Serbia at Wembley, which ended in a 2-0 win, and the trip to Tirana to face Albania.

But England remain without specialist cover or competition for Harry Kane in the No.9 role.

Tuchel confirmed again ahead of the Serbia game that Welbeck had been close to a place this time.

He then gave hope that he could make it for the World Cup next summer.

Speaking to ex-England striker Ian Wright on ITV, Tuchel said: “Even without knowing him, I know what he can give me.

“Do I really need to see this in November?

“Everything I hear about him is just the highest praise.

“(That) he will be a top team member, he will train at the highest level.

“He can be a back-up for Harry in a very orthodox No.9 role

“I felt almost like I already know what he can give us. I can wait!”

Tuchel is also reserving judgement on Ollie Watkins while he returns to full fitness.
