Ex-NFL player Percy Harvin has become the latest Florida-based sports star to see his house go up in flames - just one week after Erik Spoelstra's home burned down.

Harvin's property, which isn't far from Florida University's campus in Gainesville, caught fire on Thursday night and triggered a huge response from firefighters, according to TMZ Sports.

A neighbor who captured the blazing inferno on video shared footage of it on YouTube, before a spokesperson for local law enforcement confirmed that a fire rescue team had 'handled' the worrying incident.

'I can confirm that the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a structure fire at that residence yesterday evening,' the spokesperson is quoted as saying.

'Alachua County Fire Rescue responded and handled the incident while we assisted with evacuating nearby residences and closing the roadway.'

It is unclear if Harvin or his family were in the property at the time of the fire, though indications are that no one was seriously harmed.

It is unclear if Harvin, who played for the likes of the Buffalo Bills, was in his home at the time

The Super Bowl winner, who played as a wide receiver for the Minnesota Vikings, Seattle Seahawks, New York Jets and Buffalo Bills, starred for Florida University before moving up to the NFL in 2009 as a first-round draft pick (22nd overall).

The fire at his Gainesville home came exactly a week after Heat basketball coach Spoelstra's pad in Miami was burned to the ground, and just under two years since Dolphins football star Tyreek Hill's mansion burst into flames.

In a heartbreaking clip, a distraught Spoelstra could be seen pacing around the outside of the house with his hand on his head.

Inside, most of it appeared to have been completely gutted as flames ripped through multiple rooms. Records suggest Spoelstra bought the five-bedroom, six-bathroom home for $6.6million in late 2023.

Local news networks captured flames rising above the outside walls of the property - hours after a call went into first responders - while thick smoke poured into the sky.

Reinforcements had to be brought in to try and tackle the fire, which had reportedly engulfed 'two structures' on the property with flames piercing the roof of the house.

A 'partial collapse' forced crews to 'switch to a defensive attack,' which sees them tackle the fire from the outside. This is typically used when it is too dangerous to go inside or if the structure is potentially lost.

A neighbor told Local 10 News that Spoelstra had been renovating the house for at least a year. The work was believed to have been finished, however, and the NBA coach reportedly held a recent party in his backyard.

Back in January 2024, Dolphins receiver Hill's expensive mansion in the city also set on fire.

Documents obtained by TMZ at the time said the house - which had an estimated value of $5.6m before the blaze - suffered $2.3m in damages.
