Everton could face a battle to keep the player at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in the future

Everton won 2-0 at home to Fulham last time out before the international break at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Idrissa Gana Gueye and Michael Keane got their goals against the Cottagers. David Moyes will have been pleased to see his team pick up three points and a clean sheet.

The Toffees are sat in 13th place in the Premier League table after their first 11 fixtures. They are back in action on Monday 24th November as they look to build some momentum. The Merseyside outfit face an away trip to Old Trafford to play Manchester United.

Everton contract update regarding James Garner

Everton midfielder James Garner is out of contract at the end of the season. He is yet to pen a new deal and is due to become a free agent in June 2026 as things stand. The Toffees risk losing him for nothing if they don’t agree an extension with him.

Garner has had this update to share about his future, as per an interview with FourFourTwo: “All I know at the moment [is] nothing's going [on]. There's been no talks. I know, obviously, my contract’s up in the summer but from my side, I've heard nothing. I'm enjoying my football, of course. It's been a great start to the season for the club, and I've started quite well myself. I just need to keep on improving, keep on winning games and add a little bit more.”

Moyes has recently heaped praise on him and said: “He’s been fantastic since I came in. I didn’t realise probably how good he was. He’s been so good.”

As for his England chances, Garner added: “I feel I've got the quality to play in the team. I just need to show it on a more regular basis. Today's game, unfortunately, is all about statistics. I need to go out there and get some stats to myself, goals, assists. That's only going to help me.”

What now for James Garner at Everton?

Garner, 24, was snapped up by the Toffees back in 2022. He has since made 91 appearances in all competitions and has scored three goals. The Birkenhead-born man can play at right-back as well as his usual central midfield role.

The ex-England youth international rose up through the academy at Manchester United and was a regular at various different youth levels as a youngster. He played seven times for the Red Devils’ senior team and wasn’t quite able to nail down a place in their starting XI. His former team loaned him out for the first time in 2020 to Watford.

Garner then had a couple of temporary spells at Nottingham Forest. He was a hit during his days at the City Ground. The Reds were promoted from the Championship during his time there.
