Former NFL star’s house erupts in flames

The home of former Florida and NFL star Percy Harvin caught on fire earlier this week, according to TMZ.

The house caught fire Thursday night, before firefighters were able to put out the flames, the website reports.

It appears as though no one was seriously injured or harmed in the fire, according to TMZ.

A local law enforcement spokesperson confirmed to the website that Harvin’s house caught on fire on Thursday.

“I can confirm that the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a structure fire at that residence yesterday evening,” the spokesperson told TMZ. "Alachua County Fire Rescue responded and handled the incident while we assisted with evacuating nearby residences and closing the roadway.”

Percy Harvin played at Florida from 2006-08 under Urban Meyer, winning a pair of national titles and earning first-team All-American honors twice across his three seasons.

He was then drafted in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings and earned Rookie of the Year honors that season after catching 60 passes for 790 yards and 6 touchdowns. He added two kickoff returns for touchdowns.

Harvin dealt with injuries throughout his NFL career but still finished with 353 receptions for 4,026 yards and 22 touchdowns across 75 NFL games. He also had 5 rushing touchdowns and 5 return scores in his NFL career.

In addition to the Vikings, Harvin also played for the Seahawks, Jets and Bills across eight NFL seasons.

The house that caught fire was in the Gainesville area near the University of Florida campus, according to TMZ.

There is no word yet on what caused the fire.
