Liverpool will be able to freshen up their squad with some signings in the January transfer window
Liverpool were busy on the recruitment front in the summer and brought in the likes of Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, among others. They are currently sat in 8th place in the Premier League table after their first 11 fixtures. The Reds were beaten 3-0 away by Manchester City last time out before the international break.
Arne Slot guided them to the title last season but they face a battle to retain their crown in this campaign. They are back in action next weekend as they look to return to winning ways. Next up is a home clash against Nottingham Forest at Anfield.
Liverpool eye AFC Bournemouth attacker Antoine Semenyo
According to TEAMtalk, AFC Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo has emerged as a ‘prime target’ for Liverpool. The 25-year-old is also said to be on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur. He has caught the eye over recent times with the Cherries and they could face a battle to keep hold of him down the line amid expected attention from elsewhere.
Semenyo, who has made 31 caps for the Ghana national team, joined his current club back in 2023. Prior to his move, he rose up through the ranks at Bristol City and played 125 games for their first-team, scoring 21 goals. He was also loaned out by the Robins to Bath City, Newport County and Sunderland to get some experience under his belt.
Bournemouth then snapped him up and he has since become one of their most prized assets. He has fired 28 goals in 99 outings for the Cherries, six of which have come this season, and his pace and power causes real problems to opposition defenders. If Liverpool landed him, he would boost their attacking department and he would give Slot another option to pick from at the top end of the pitch.
He could also be a perfect replacement for Mo Salah during AFCON and be viewed as the long-term heir to the Egyptian king too.
Liverpool should propose swap deal to AFC Bournemouth
Liverpool should try and test Bournemouth’s resolve by offering them a player in return plus cash for Semenyo. Harvey Elliott’s move to Aston Villa hasn’t worked out and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him return to his parent club soon. The Reds should propose a potential switch to the Cherries for him next. Liverpool and Villa would need to come to an agreement to cut the loan short as no recall clause exists.
Elliott, 22, would get plenty of game time with Andoni Iraola’s side which is what he needs right now. He has fallen out of favour at Villa Park and has struggled for minutes. The former Fulham man has been left out completely by Unai Emery in their last three matches and his future there is up in the air.
The ex-England youth international was given the green light to leave Liverpool in September to try and help boost his development. Aston Villa hasn’t been the right fit for him though and Bournemouth would suit him a lot more. They play an attractive attacking style of football and tend to create lots of chances for their forward players.
Elliott is unlikely to get back into the Reds’ plans at this stage if he did come back. He faces serious competition for his position from the likes of Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo. The Surrey-born man is in limbo right now and his situation needs to be resolved sooner rather than later to avoid him getting left behind and not fulfilling his potential.
