**Newcastle United are currently working behind the scenes to avoid another Alexander Isak situation by tying down their big stars to improved, long-term deals.**
As Isak proved, however, that a contract isn't worth the paper it's printed on and if a player wants to leave, they'll find a way. The best the club can do is to make sure that whoever comes knocking has to pay through the nose to take our best players.
Sandro Tonali is one player thought to be in line for a new bumper deal, but so too is full-back Tino Livramento, who has become a hugely important player for Eddie Howe over the past year.
Livramento has been missing through injury recently, and Newcastle have looked decidedly much worse without him. The former Southampton man has adapted his game to be comfortable playing on either flank and has cemented his place in the England lineup in the process.
Manchester City and Manchester United want Tino Livramento
----------------------------------------------------------
That talent hasn't gone unnoticed, obviously, with Manchester City linked with a move for Tino in the summer. Thankfully, it never materialised, but journalist Ben Jacobs has now told The United Stand Podcast that City are 'adamant' they'll make their move for Livramento in the summer, but also suggested that their neighbours, Manchester United, may also come to the table.
> “The beauty of Tino Livramento is he can play on both sides.“So, I can understand why Manchester United would like the player. And let’s not forget that Jason Wilcox \[Man United director of football\] knows him incredibly well. So, he’s a factor in all of this as well.“Man City seem to be the club, speaking to sources, that are most adamant on trying to get Tino Livramento in 2026. But, of course, if they make progress and the feeling becomes that Newcastle might sell, then other clubs will come forward.
>
> “It is absolutely true that Manchester United have people that appreciate Tino Livramento but it’s simply not gone further than that and Ross Wilson, who’s the new sporting director at Newcastle, has just come in and one of his first tasks along with a few others at the club is to get Livramento to sign a new deal.”
We don't see Manchester United as being a threat in the race for Tino Livramento
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We don't think we'd be too worried if Manchester United made a move for Livramento in the summer, but City is definitely a worry, especially if they manage to regain their Premier League title this season.
The sooner Newcastle can get Livramento tied down to new terms, the better. he has spoken about being extremely happy at Newcastle, and his best mate, Lewis Hall is also at the club, which will help, but nothing is guaranteed in football.
Tino has the potential to be a Newcastle United icon if he stays at the club and continues to develop at the rapid pace he has been this past year. We really hope we can keep him for many years.
