Everton midfielder James Garner has revealed that he is yet to speak with the club regarding a contract extension.
Garner’s current deal expires in the summer, however there is an option to extend it by a year, as per the Liverpool Echo.
The Toffees have recently tied down Jordan Pickford on renewed terms, and extended James Tarkowski’s contract.
Presumably, Garner would be next on the list, however it is worrying that he is yet to begin talks.
Speaking with FourFourTwo, the 24-year-old said:“All I know at the moment [is] nothing’s going [on].
“There’s been no talks. I know, obviously, my contract’s up in the summer but from my side, I’ve heard nothing.”
The Birkenhead-born Garner has been a standout player for Moyes this season, putting in some superb performances.
He’s maturing into a fine midfielder, and his versatility ensures the Blues have an invaluable utility player in the squad.
Garner continued: “I’m enjoying my football, of course. It’s been a great start to the season for the club, and I’ve started quite well myself.
“I just need to keep on improving, keep on winning games and add a little bit more.”
BLUES MUST TIE GARNER DOWN ON LONG-TERM DEAL
It certainly feels like it’s been something of a coming of age season for Garner. Indeed, he has arguably played his best football since joining the club in 2022.
It’s no surprise then he’s been linked with a move elsewhere, with Newcastle United reportedly interested.
Former club Manchester United are also said to consider him an option next summer as Ruben Amorim rebuilds.
I sincerely hope we see Garner extend his contract with the club. A player so versatile, reliable and consistent is an invaluable asset the club cannot afford to lose.
His performances at both left and right-back have been outstanding. His distribution down the wing to Barry against Fulham brought the best out of the Frenchman.
He’s a player built perfectly in the David Moyes mould, and hopefully the Scot can continue to get the best out of him.
