Fan who stormed court, charged at Donovan Mitchell during Cavs-Nets receives harsh punishment…

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The overzealous fan who ran onto the court during the Cavs-Nets game in Brooklyn last month has seen his final NBA contest.

In person.

Sources familiar with the situation tell cleveland.com that the unnamed fan has been banned from any event at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center for unacceptable conduct that was in violation of the rules of both the NBA and Barclays Center. That fan has also been banned indefinitely from any and all League-related events (NBA, WNBA, G League and 2K) that take place at an NBA arena or facility.

Sources say if he is discovered at any of them, he will be removed from the premises by security and subject to arrest for trespassing.

At the 5:02 mark of the fourth quarter during the Cleveland-Brooklyn game on Oct. 24, in the middle of a brief stoppage following a replay review, with the Nets mounting a furious comeback, a fan — clad in a bright purple hoodie, with a cell phone in his hand to capture a photo or video — rushed onto the court and approached Cavs star Donovan Mitchell before referee Curtis Blair intervened and the fan was dragged from the arena by four security members.

In the locker room after the game, Mitchell was asked for his immediate reaction to the unexpected incident — a scary and potentially dangerous situation for Mitchell and everyone else on the court at that time.

“Oh (expletive),” Mitchell said on Oct. 24. “I took a few steps back and then I repositioned my feet and I was ready to handle whatever what was necessary.

“The kid wanted a selfie. I know he’s probably doing some jail time, but when he gets out, he’s probably got a great selfie. Sorry, I don’t think that’s a joke.”

A costly selfie at that.
