The BBC gave Peterborough United centre-back David Okagbue a high player rating after Ireland Under 21s lost a European Championship Under 21 qualifying game against England 2-0 at Birmingham City FC on Friday.

Okagbue played the full match at St Andrews as England strengthened their grip on the group with two second-half goals from Manchester City’s Divin Mubama (penalty) and Chelsea’s Tyrique George. Mubamal also failed to convert a first-half penalty. Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri, Rico Lewis (Man City), Jamie Gittins (Chelsea), Lewis Miley (Newcastle) and Jobe Bellingham (Dortmund) were among the England squad.

England have won all four games so far and are favourites to win the group. Ireland, who were unbeaten before this evening’s game, could still finish second, but have work to do to overhaul Slovakia. Ireland play again in Andorra on Tuesday (November 18).

Posh midfielder Matthew Garbett could be in action in the early hours of Sunday morning when New Zealand take on Colombia in a friendly in Florida. New Zealand also take on Ecuador, again in the United States in New Jersey, early next Wednesday morning.

Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony has revealed Posh will receive a payment if Garbett plays in the World Cup Finals next year. New Zealand have already qualified for the Finals. Garbett would become the first serving Posh player to appear in the World Cup Finals.

The PT understands Posh full-back James Dornelly turned down the chance to link up with the St Lucia squad during the international break in order to stay at London Road and work with his new club boss Luke Williams. Dornelly made his England Under 20 debut last season.
