After losing to the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night, the San Antonio Spurs get a rematch against the same Warriors squad at the Frost Bank Center. The Spurs enter the contest with a record of 8-3, while Golden State stands at 7-6.
In the first matchup between these two teams, Stephen Curry led the way for the Warriors with 46 points. The best shooter in NBA history was 13-for-25 from the field and 15-of-16 from the free throw line. Jimmy Butler chipped in 28 points, eight assists and six rebounds in 28 minutes, while hitting 7-of-12 shots from the field and 9-of-12 from the line. Combined, Curry and Butler were 10-for-23 from three-point range.
Despite the 125-120 loss at the hands of the Warriors, the news wasn’t all bad for the Spurs. For the first time in franchise history, two players had a triple-double in the same game. Victor Wembanyama finished with 31 points, 15 rebounds and ten assists, while Stephon Castle had 23 points, ten rebounds and ten assists. The Spurs led early on but eventually lost their grip on the game in the second half (see the Final Grades).
After tonight’s affair, the Spurs will play the Warriors twice in San Francisco. The first time will be on February 11th, with the second contest taking place on April 1st.
San Antonio Spurs Injury Update
Unfortunately, there is a new addition to the Spurs injury report. Julian Champagnie, who played all 82 games last season and hasn’t missed a game so far this season, is listed as questionable with a bruised hip. On the season, he’s averaging 9.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game while shooting 40.8% from the field and 35.7% from three-point range.
Dylan Harper, who got off to a great start as a rookie, remains sidelined with a strained calf.
San Antonio Spurs Starting Lineup
Even though the Spurs are coming off of a loss to these same Warriors, don’t expect head coach Mitch Johnson to switch up the starting lineup. He’ll likely keep the starting five of Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle, De’Aaron Fox, Harrison Barnes and Devin Vassell.
Castle has recorded at least ten assists in four straight games. Over the span, he has 47 assists to only ten turnovers.
Betting Guide: Spurs vs. Warriors
The Spurs are favored by 2.5 points and the over/under is 233.5 points. The smart money is on San Antonio. While the Spurs lost on Wednesday, they played well and should be out for revenge. With the experience of what to expect against Golden State, the Spurs should have the upper hand.
