Steelers Send Scout To Check Out Top 2026 QB Prospect

After spending plenty of time watching Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza last week, the Pittsburgh Steelers have eyes on another top 2026 quarterback prospect this weekend. The Steelers have at least one scout in attendance for Friday night’s Oregon versus Minnesota game. Per On3’s Nate Bish, Pittsburgh was one of several teams on-hand with eyes on several prospects, including Ducks QB Dante Moore.

Pittsburgh has scouts all over the country that scout regions instead of positions. It’s not known who is there but it could be Mark Bruener, who lives in Washington and often covers the West Coast. Or it could be Kelvin Fisher, who attended the Oregon and Oregon State Pro Days a year ago.

No matter who made the trip, Moore is the marquee name. Dane Brugler recently named him the No. 3 quarterback in the class and No. 12 overall prospect. Mel Kiper ranked Moore as the No. 1 quarterback in his most recent list. A surprise name who gained little buzz before the year began, Moore has broken out for the Ducks in a big way.

A five-star recruit from Ohio, Moore initially committed to Oregon. He flipped to UCLA late in the recruiting process and played for the Bruins in 2023. He struggled to take care of the ball, throwing nine interceptions including several pick-sixes. In the hopes of replacing Bo Nix, he transferred to Oregon for the 2024 season. But he sat behind Dillon Gabriel before becoming the Ducks’ starter this season.

Entering Friday night, Moore had thrown for 1,884 yards, 19 touchdowns, and five interceptions while leading the Ducks to an 8-1 record. The only loss came against Mendoza’s Hoosiers. Moore is an underclassmen who has to still officially declare for the 2026 NFL Draft, which will be held in Pittsburgh.

As of this writing, Oregon leads Minnesota 21-3. Moore has been crisp, completing 12-of-13 passes for 128 yards.

Other top Ducks prospects include TE Kenyon Sadiq and DL A’Mauri Washington. Sadiq entered the game with a team-leading five touchdowns while Washington has three tackles for loss and a sack.

Pittsburgh drafted Oregon DL Derrick Harmon in the first round a year ago. They could have eyes on Eugene again come this year’s draft cycle.
